Why a Yearly Sweep Matters

Every time you burn wood, the smoke leaves behind a tar-like residue called creosote on the inside of your flue. It builds up in layers, and once it reaches about one-eighth of an inch it becomes the fuel behind most chimney fires. A yearly sweep keeps that buildup from ever reaching a dangerous level.

Sweeping is also about how your fireplace performs. A flue packed with soot, a bird nest or fallen masonry cannot draw smoke up and out. That is when you get a smoky living room, a fire that will not stay lit and the smell of old campfire drifting through the house. Clearing the flue fixes all three.

Our technicians sweep from the firebox up, using rotary brushes and a HEPA vacuum that keeps the dust contained. We finish by checking the damper, smoke chamber and flue so you know the whole system is ready for the season.

What Is Included

What a Titan Sweep Includes

Full Flue Sweep

We brush the entire flue from the firebox to the cap, removing creosote, soot and any debris that has collected over the year.

Firebox & Damper Check

We clean the firebox and smoke shelf and confirm the damper opens, closes and seals the way it should.

HEPA Dust Control

Drop cloths and a HEPA vacuum keep the soot where it belongs. We leave the hearth cleaner than we found it.

Draft & Safety Look

We check for the warning signs of a draft problem, a cracked flue tile or a cap that has failed, and tell you what we see.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a chimney sweep take?

A standard sweep for a single fireplace takes about 45 minutes to an hour. If we find a heavy creosote layer or a blockage, it can take a little longer, and we will tell you before we start.

Is sweeping messy?

No. We seal the fireplace opening, lay down drop cloths and run a HEPA vacuum throughout the job so the soot never reaches your furniture or floors.

How often should I sweep a wood-burning fireplace?

Once a year is the standard for a fireplace used through the winter. The flue should be swept whenever creosote reaches about one-eighth of an inch, and a yearly visit catches that in time.

Do you sweep wood stoves and inserts?

Yes. We sweep open fireplaces, wood stoves and fireplace inserts. Inserts need the liner and the connector pipe cleaned, which we handle as part of the visit.

Can I burn a fire right after a sweep?

Yes. Once we finish and confirm the flue is clear and the damper works, your fireplace is ready to use that same evening.

What is the difference between sweeping and an inspection?

Sweeping removes buildup from the flue. An inspection evaluates the condition and safety of the whole system. We look for obvious problems during every sweep, but a formal inspection is a separate, more detailed evaluation.

Will sweeping stop my chimney from smelling?

Often, yes. A musty or smoky smell usually comes from creosote and moisture in the flue, and removing the buildup clears most odors. If a smell remains, it can point to a cap or draft issue we can check.

Do you serve my town?
