Chimney Cap Installation in Batavia, IL
Chimney Cap Installation in Batavia & the Fox Valley
A good cap is the cheapest insurance your chimney can have. It keeps rain, animals and embers out and stops the downdrafts that push smoke back into your home.
The Small Part That Protects Everything
The chimney cap sits at the top of the flue and does more work than any other single part. It keeps rain and snow from pouring straight down into the chimney, where water does the most damage. It blocks squirrels, raccoons and birds from nesting in the flue. And its spark arrestor screen keeps burning embers from landing on your roof.
A missing or rusted cap invites every one of those problems. We see flues full of nesting material, water-soaked smoke chambers and rusted dampers that all trace back to a cap that failed or was never there.
We install stainless steel caps that are built to last and sized to your flue. For multiple flues or an unusual crown, we fit a custom or full-coverage cap so the whole top is protected.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need a chimney cap?
A cap keeps rain, snow, animals and debris out of the flue and its screen stops embers from reaching your roof. Without one, water and nesting material cause damage that costs far more than the cap.
What is the best material for a chimney cap?
Stainless steel is the best value for our climate. It resists rust, stands up to freeze-thaw winters and typically outlasts galvanized caps by many years.
Can a cap stop animals from getting in?
Yes. A properly fitted cap with a mesh screen blocks squirrels, raccoons and birds while still letting smoke pass. If an animal is already inside, we remove it and the nesting material before capping.
Will a new cap fix my downdraft problem?
Often it helps. Certain cap designs improve draft and reduce the blowback that pushes smoke into the room. We assess the cause first, since draft issues can also come from flue sizing or height.
Do you install caps on multiple flues?
Yes. For chimneys with more than one flue we fit a multi-flue or full-coverage cap that protects the entire crown with one unit.
How long does cap installation take?
A standard cap installation takes under an hour. Custom or multi-flue covers may take a little longer, and we confirm the fit before we leave.
Can a cap be installed in winter?
Yes. Cap installation is not weather-sensitive the way masonry curing is, so we can fit one year round.
Will a cap keep rain out completely?
A cap keeps rain out of the flue opening, which is where most water enters. For full protection we pair it with a sound crown and waterproofing of the masonry.
